Packing Essentials & Preparation;

  Clothing & Gear

  • Moisture-wicking base layers, thermal mid-layers, fleece jackets, and windproof/waterproof outer shells.
  • 4-season sleeping bag rated to at least –10 °C with liner for high altitudes above 4,000 m.
  • Trekking poles to reduce joint strain, especially during descents.
  • UV-rated sunglasses, SPF 50+ sunscreen, and lip balm for intense UV exposure.
  • Sturdy, broken-in waterproof boots with ankle support (avoid new shoes to prevent blisters).

  Health & First Aid

  • Carry personal medications, blister kits, and Diamox (acetazolamide) after doctor consultation.
  • Pack electrolyte tablets, cough drops, wet wipes, sanitary products, and insect repellent.

  Backpacking & Logistics

  • Main pack (60–75 L) will be carried by porters; keep a 25–35 L daypack for essentials.
  • Typical load is 10 kg max in a 70 L duffle bag — respect local porter limits.
  • Carry passport copies, TIMS card, Sagarmatha permit, and valid travel insurance (must cover up to 6,000 m and heli evacuation).
  • Bring enough Nepalese rupees — last reliable ATMs are in Namche Bazaar.

Altitude & Health Guidance;

The trek ascends from ~2,800 m to 5,364 m, increasing the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

  • Symptoms: headache, nausea, appetite loss, fatigue never ignore them.
  • Prevention: ascend slowly, acclimatize in Namche and Dingboche, hydrate well, eat carbs, and use Diamox if advised.
  • Please feel free to describe or rest if symptoms worsen; safety is paramount.

Cultural Highlights & Scenic Spots;

Tengboche Monastery

Located at 3,867 m, this is the largest Buddhist gompa in the Khumbu region, offering panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse.

If you trek in October–November, you may witness the Mani Rimdu Festival — a Sherpa celebration with masked dances and spiritual rituals.

Imja Khola Valley & Dingboche

Cross scenic suspension bridges over the Imja River and explore Dingboche — known as the “Summer Valley” — with its iconic stone wind walls.

Gorak Shep & Kala Patthar

Gorak Shep (5,170 m) is the final overnight stop before reaching Everest Base Camp. Ascend Kala Patthar (5,545 m) for the best sunrise views of Mount Everest.

Connectivity & Local Support

  • Wi-Fi is available via Everest Link — even at Gorak Shep and Base Camp (subject to weather and power).
  • Sherpa guides, porters, and Icefall Doctors are key to safety and logistics — most are high-altitude specialists from the Khumbu region.

Tips from Trekkers

  • Hydrate consistently, eat carb-rich snacks, and pace yourself altitude fatigue is a real phenomenon.
  • Pack toilet paper and wet wipes; many teahouses lack proper facilities or supplies.
  • Don’t skip acclimatization days of rest if you feel symptoms of AMS.
  • Clothing tip from a trekker: “8 shirts, 3 thermal layers, fresh socks daily… something comfy for teahouses and sandals.”
