The Khopra Danda Trek is a hidden gem in the Annapurna region, offering an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the popular Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. Known for its stunning ridge-line views, peaceful trails, and close cultural encounters, this moderate trek takes you through beautiful rhododendron forests, terraced fields, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages. At its highest point, Khopra Ridge (3,660 meters) rewards trekkers with breathtaking panoramas of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and many other snow-capped peaks. One of the major highlights of this trek is the optional day hike to the sacred Kaire Lake (4,500 meters), nestled high in the Himalayas. Unlike busier trails, Khopra offers solitude and serenity, supported by a community-run eco-lodge initiative. Trekkers also have the chance to explore the lesser-known Mulde Viewpoint, which arguably offers better sunrise views than Poonhill. Whether you're an experienced hiker looking for a quieter experience or a beginner with decent fitness, the Khopra Danda Trek is a rewarding journey through nature, culture, and dramatic mountain landscapes, all without the crowds.
The trail becomes more secluded as you move away from the main route. Walk through dense forests and ascend to Dobato, a quiet spot with a rustic teahouse atmosphere. In the evening, hike up to Muldai Viewpoint (3,637m) for one of the best panoramic mountain views in the region.
Today’s trek follows a beautiful ridgeline with dramatic mountain views. As you climb higher, the landscape opens up to reveal the majestic Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. Khopra Danda offers a breathtaking high-altitude experience, and on a clear day, sunset here is unforgettable.
If you're up for it, take an early morning side trip to the sacred Kaire Lake (4,500m), a challenging but rewarding excursion. After returning to Khopra, descend through alpine meadows and forested trails to reach Swanta village. This Magar community offers authentic cultural interactions.
On the final day, trek downhill through terraced fields and charming villages to Ulleri. From here, a vehicle will drive you back to Pokhara, where you can relax and reflect on your Himalayan adventure.
