The Humla Limi Valley Trek offers a rare Himalayan adventure through one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich regions. The Simikot–Hilsa route, the lifeline for pilgrims heading to Mount Kailash, follows deep gorges, majestic rivers, high passes, and serene valleys – culminating in the mystical Limi Valley.

What sets this trek apart is not just its geographical remoteness, but the timelessness of life here. Isolated from modernity, the people of Limi Valley still rely on barter systems, live in stone houses, and follow deeply spiritual traditions. Many villages here can only be reached on foot, making every step feel like a walk back in time.

You’ll traverse landscapes ranging from lush alpine forests to stark, high-altitude desert. The trail crosses the dramatic Nara La (4,620m) and Nyalu La (4,949m) passes, with breathtaking views of Mount Kailash, Gurla Mandata, and Mount Saipal. Along the way, you'll encounter ancient monasteries like Rinchhen Ling Gompa in Halji—one of the oldest and most significant Buddhist centers in Nepal—and pass sacred caves, yak pastures, and colorful prayer walls.

You’ll be welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Evening trek briefing and time to explore Kathmandu’s vibrant streets.

Early flight into the Himalayas. Simikot, the starting point of the trek, offers spectacular views and your first glimpse of the remote Humla lifestyle.


The trail descends through pine forests and traditional villages following the Karnali River. Overnight at a teahouse or tented camp.

Trek past barley and buckwheat fields to Kermi, where you can enjoy natural hot springs and visit 13th-century Buddhist monasteries.

Today’s trail follows the Karnali River again, with views of remote landscapes. Explore the Nyingma monastery in Yalbang.

Continue through juniper forests and isolated settlements. Visit Chiwa Monastery, an important Sakya sect site.


Ascend gradually through open hills and Tibetan-style villages, enjoying ever-changing terrain.


A long day crossing the Nara La Pass, with views of Tibetan plains and Mt. Kailash. Descend to the border village of Hilsa.
Leaving the trade route behind, enter the wild. Follow the Karnali River and camp near the spiritual cave of Ya Yip Phuk.

Enter the Limi Valley, marked by mani walls and prayer flags. Til is the first Limi village, rich in Tibetan heritage.

Trek along the river and arrive at Halji, the cultural heart of Limi. Explore the stunning Rinchhen Ling Monastery, believed to be over 1,000 years old.


Pass barley fields and whitewashed homes to reach Jang, the last village in the Limi Valley.


Acclimatization and cultural immersion. Explore the village or take a short hike to surrounding viewpoints.


Climb out of the valley into barren high-altitude terrain. Camp in a beautiful open valley.


Cross the challenging Nyalu La Pass, the highest point of the trek. Rewarding views of Kailash, Saipal, and the Himalayas. Descend through alpine lakes and yak pastures.


Retrace your steps through the lower valley back to Kermi. Relax in the hot springs once more.


Final trekking day through peaceful forest trails and terraced fields.


Return to civilization. Celebrate your incredible journey.
